“Field Speak” is a love story to the fields surrounding the artist’s studio. Each stroke speaks of the sacred whisperings of the fields and their ability to both envelope the viewer and create a feeling of vast expanse.

Melissa crafted this painting on her iPad using a program called Procreate. This allows her to transpose the natural world around her into digital renderings while staying true to her sustainable art practice.

Melissa “thinks in paintings” and crafting digital art is an immediate way to transfer her thoughts. Creating digital art is also a natural progression in Melissa’s sustainable art practice because her process generates zero art-material waste.

About the Artist

Melissa lives in a lovely rural setting in a farm house surrounded by vibrant landscapes. Her studio is framed by windows looking out onto dazzling golden fields, towering pine trees and a natural pond. She spends her summer on a lake in northern Ontario where she spends her days foraging by the lake and local waterfalls. Melissa paints with and around her twin girls and in between living "life". Melissa’s abstract landscapes reflect the colours of the seasons, the lines of the hills surrounding her studio and the trees dotting the horizon.
